Chad Mureta’s App Empire Book Review

This is my review of Chad Mureta’s App Empire book.

For those of you who don’t know who Chad Mureta is, he’s a tech entrepreneur and creator of apps for iphones. His personal story is very inspiring. After being in a car accident and being 100k in debt he decided to turn his life around by creating a business that he can literally run from his phone anywhere in the world and a business that’s not taking over his life and time. Having time freedom and having the money to enjoy it is really what it’s all about. I also like the fact that Chad isn’t a programmer and he tells people how to do what he’s doing too by outsourcing all the tech stuff.

The book went into more details about the nuts and bolts of the App business but I think his interview and all the tips he gave out on Tim Ferriss’s 4 hour work week website was more than enough for someone to get started in this business. The key isn’t knowing how to do it…it’s finding and discovering what App the market wants.

Can you come up with or modify or find what the customers want?

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile and doing my market research. A huge marjority of Apps are games and entertainment, the productivity apps only get a small slice of the pie. There’s a lot of competitors for popular ideas/apps. The cost to outsource is relatively low and it’s not that expensive to get programmers to do it for you. You just need a blueprint for them and need to know what it is you want and how you want it to look. If you don’t know that, then don’t expect them to know or to fill in the blanks for you.

Chad Mureta is a great marketer. I’ve heard some of the developers say that. His App’s aren’t that extraordinary and some are really simple but he knows how to market them and to get them to stay on top of the list of popular apps for months and that helps a lot with sales because more people can find and discover them.

He has a really expensive course out with videos and more in depth. But I think the book is enough information for someone to get going if they really want to do this. App Empire: Make Money, Have a Life, and Let Technology Work for You

  1. All the social apps I find pointless and just there to expose you to adverts and various rogue embedded sites. I’m just a little sick of the vampire bites, the drinks, the food fights, pokes (WTF is that for) and the other email notification. To the point that all but join and group notifications I have disabled. I’m just fed up with the as you put it facebook spam. It was fun at first, now its waste of my time and effort.Yeah, I’m on facebook. I don’t login that much, Maybe once every two weeks. Why, well I have to go login. Every time I stop the session by shut down the browser means I have to login again. And frankly I just can’t be bothered going through the process. If I was left logged in I would visit every day. Also consider why should I extend information and play the spam games with in a walled garden in favour of extending my blog.

    • I agree. Some apps are a waste of time. I like the utility apps though, some of the is useful. Like the translator app, or the camera/frames/postcards, or conversion apps. I also like the Evernote or travel apps. It depends on what you are looking for and what you need. People like games are usually bored and just want to pass the time.

      • No they do not. Tymoss is against the you follow I follow stuff. Tymoss has 13,343 followers. He is following 153 people. daviddifranco has 11,447 followers. He is following 2,077 people. I see no point in Twitter if people are just going to follow me to get me to follow them. Whats the point? I would rather have 200 followers who actually want to follow me rather then 50,000 followers only because, they want more followers. You have to be pretty low to do that.

    • Hey, you are right, Rashmi. It happened to me as well. I keep getting this spam mails about question i have never asked..i ws on verge of downloading this application..then came this standard facebook question do u want to give access to your info..and disclaimer that facebook has nothing to do with it..I stopped right there..after that i discovered i was getting more mails for my questions..more spam, more i distrust..
