Making Money with a Blog

Starting a blog to make money is crazy because a blog is NOT a business. It is time consuming and producing tons of content constantly takes a lot of effort. So why do people start a blog then if that’s the case?

Write a blog if you enjoy the following:
1. Sharing your thoughts, progress, journaling, sharing what you’re learning or trying to teach something.
2. Have free time, enjoy writing and don’t care if you make money or not.
3. Want to develop a following and an audience and getting to know people and making friends from all over the world.
4. Want to make connections with like minded people who share you interests.

There are people who have blogs that make a small amount of income that’s enough to pay the utilities or go out to dinner a few times a month. Then there’s Problogger.net, Darren Rowse who makes over 6 figures a year with his blog but it took him several years to get to that point and he’s an affiliate for some high priced products and he’s monetizing his blog in multiple ways. It’s not impossible to make money with a blog but if you want to start an online business, a blog might not be the answer if you need to make money in the next 1-3 months.

Having a blog is like planting a tree, it takes time to grow and you need to water it consistently (add content weekly).

If you still want to start a blog to make money, then make sure you have an opt-in area so you can build your list and have things you can monetize like (Google adsense, affiliate links, your own products, advertising, etc.) But in the early stages, the main thing to focus on is content building and getting back links to your blog and building traffic to it.

If you are fed up with a blog and want to start an online business, the easiest thing to do is to build a mini-website (5 page website) and sell something on it, with an amazing sales letter or a sales video with a BUY IT NOW link then drive traffic to it. If you can do that then you’ll start seeing some sales.

Another way that a blog is helpful is if you are a journalist or a freelance writer or want to be some kind of writer. Then you need a blog so that your audience knows you and can keep in touch. If you have an existing website, then adding a blog to it will help you rank better if you can keep up with fresh content. But remember making money with a blog is not always the easiest and quickest thing to do online. There are other far better strategies if you are interested in internet marketing.
